Brazilian club eyes season-long deal, but Palmeiras link may complicate negotiations

Flamengo is reportedly targeting Gabriel Jesus, currently at Arsenal, in an ambitious move to bring the forward back to Brazilian football. According to journalist Fabrício Lopes, the club hopes to secure the striker on a season-long loan, with key involvement from Arsenal teammate Jorginho to help convince the player.

Flamengo Seeks Help from Jorginho to Lure Gabriel Jesus

Flamengo’s new football director José Boto is leading the effort, aiming to finalize the loan deal as Jesus recovers from a recent injury. Jorginho, a friend and former teammate of the Brazilian striker in London, is expected to play a vital role in convincing Jesus to leave European football for South America.

However, the operation faces a significant emotional hurdle: Gabriel Jesus remains strongly tied to Palmeiras, the club that launched his professional career. His affection for Palmeiras may impact his willingness to join one of their biggest rivals.

Flamengo Shifts Focus Toward High-Intensity Strikers

The interest in Gabriel Jesus aligns with Flamengo coach Filipe Luís’ tactical vision, which favors high-intensity pressing attackers. That shift in strategy has seen current striker Pedro lose space in the starting XI in 2025, with reports suggesting he may be on his way out.

Gabriel Jesus, known for his defensive work rate and versatility, fits this profile perfectly. Under Tite, he played a similar role during the 2018 World Cup, applying high pressure from the front without the ball a style Flamengo is now prioritizing.

High Salary Demands Could Complicate Transfer

A major obstacle to the deal is Gabriel Jesus’ salary at Arsenal, which stands at approximately €16 million per year (converted from R$102 million), or roughly €1.33 million per month. Flamengo is reportedly seeking financial support from Arsenal to make the arrangement viable.

The forward’s contract with the Premier League side runs until 2027, and his current market value is €32 million, with 96 appearances for Arsenal, 26 goals, and 20 assists since his arrival.
