Filipe Luís breaks the silence on Lucas Paquetá’s possible return to Flamengo

Flamengo coach praises the midfielder but avoids confirming any transfer talks

Lucas Paquetá’s name has taken over social media this week after European outlets reported that the midfielder may soon be cleared of charges by the English FA. With that, Flamengo fans launched a campaign online, urging the club to bring their homegrown star back to Rio de Janeiro.

Filipe Luís addresses the rumors after league win

Following Flamengo’s latest Brasileirão victory, head coach Filipe Luís was asked about the possibility of Paquetá rejoining the team. While he offered high praise for the West Ham player, the coach remained tight-lipped about any ongoing negotiations.

“He (Lucas Paquetá) is not just any player. He has a long history here and is loved by the fans. A player with his skillset can fit into any team in the world,” said the manager.

The two share a strong connection from their time together with the Brazilian national team, and Paquetá reportedly played a role in convincing Filipe Luís to join Flamengo back in 2019.

West Ham exit could happen after FA decision

If officially cleared by the English FA over alleged betting irregularities, Paquetá would be free to leave West Ham with no legal issues, paving the way for a potential summer move.

At just 26 years old, the midfielder still has prime years ahead of him. A return to Flamengo, where he first rose to stardom, is a move that excites many fans but it won’t be easy.

Manchester City also in the race

Flamengo isn’t alone in the race. According to local reports, Manchester City is one of the main contenders to sign Paquetá this summer. Pep Guardiola has previously shown interest in the Brazilian and may now reignite talks if the player becomes available.

West Ham signed Paquetá in 2022 for around €60 million, and any departure is likely to require a similar or higher fee, making it difficult for a Brazilian club to match.
