Botafogo closes in on deal with former Barcelona goalkeeper Neto

Botafogo is close to finalizing a deal with goalkeeper Neto, formerly of Barcelona, Valencia, and Juventus, in what would be a significant reinforcement for the club’s defense heading into the second half of the season.
Advanced Talks With Neto
According to GE, negotiations between Botafogo and the 35-year-old Bournemouth goalkeeper are at an advanced stage, with both sides confident that an agreement will be reached soon. Neto is expected to terminate his contract with the English club and arrive in Brazil on a free transfer.
The Brazilian club is reportedly offering a two-year deal, pending final approval of contract terms and paperwork.
Botafogo Plans for Goalkeeper Swap
Neto’s arrival is a top priority for the Rio-based club, which is preparing for the potential departure of current first-choice John, whose future remains uncertain. Club officials believe that Neto’s experience in top European leagues makes him an ideal candidate to lead the team’s defense.
A Return to Brazil After European Career
Neto made his name in Europe with stints at Fiorentina, Juventus, Valencia, and Barcelona, before joining Bournemouth. Despite flashes of quality, he has served primarily as a backup in recent seasons, sparking speculation about a move away from Europe.
If the deal is finalized, it would mark Neto’s first time playing professionally in Brazil since leaving Atlético Paranaense in 2011.
