Cole Palmer, Chelsea’s attacking midfielder, was named the best player of the tournament, leading the Blues to victory with standout performances in every match. Gonzalo, who stepped in for an underperforming Mbappé, was Real Madrid’s top performer, showcasing potential that earned him widespread praise despite his team’s 4-0 semi-final loss to PSG.
PSG and Fluminense Also Represented
Despite losing in the final, PSG had three players selected: Hakimi, Marquinhos, and Vitinha, who delivered consistent performances throughout the tournament. Vitinha had previously commented that winning the Club World Cup wouldn’t top the Champions League, though his inclusion reflects his key role in PSG’s midfield.
Brazilian side Fluminense saw veterans Thiago Silva and forward Arias included, recognizing their leadership and attacking flair. Meanwhile, Bono of Al-Hilal earned the goalkeeper spot thanks to clutch saves that helped eliminate Manchester City in the knockout phase.
Chelsea Celebrates Second Trophy of the Season
With the Club World Cup title, Chelsea wraps up the 2024/25 season with two trophies, having also claimed the UEFA Conference League earlier in the year after defeating Real Betis. Under coach Enzo Maresca, the Blues now look ahead to a Champions League campaign, buoyed by this global success.
