Chelsea reaches agreement to sign Jorrel Hato after request from Enzo Maresca

Chelsea has reached a contract agreement with promising Dutch defender Jorrel Hato, following a direct request from newly appointed manager Enzo Maresca. The deal is now awaiting final approval from Ajax, with an official announcement expected later this week, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea Responds to Maresca’s Call for Defensive Reinforcement

Manager Enzo Maresca identified Hato as a top target to strengthen Chelsea’s backline ahead of the 2025/26 season. The club has been actively pursuing reinforcements, with defense marked as a key priority. Talks with the player advanced quickly, with Hato reportedly pushing for a move to the Premier League.

Ajax and Chelsea Nearing Final Terms

Although Ajax initially held firm in negotiations, the 18-year-old defender’s desire to leave helped accelerate talks between the two clubs. Sources close to the negotiation reveal that Ajax and Chelsea are now close to finalizing a deal worth approximately €40 million.

Once the financial terms are settled, Chelsea will formally announce Hato as their latest signing. He is expected to join the squad for pre-season preparations under Maresca’s guidance.

Hato Not the Only Signing Expected

Chelsea’s board continues to pursue additional signings as part of an aggressive rebuild under Maresca. The Blues are aiming to return to Champions League contention and are targeting young, high-potential talent to shape the future of the club.

The acquisition of Hato would mark another significant investment by Chelsea in young European talent, following their recent trend of long-term squad building.
