Ter Stegen sidelined after surgery; Rashford and academy talents headline Hansi Flick’s touring squad

After a short delay due to financial issues, FC Barcelona has officially departed for their 2025 pre-season tour of Asia, announcing a 30-man squad featuring new signings, top academy prospects, and one major omission: no place for Pau Víctor, who is close to joining Braga.

Tour Departure Delayed by Financial Dispute

The team’s departure to Japan was postponed by 24 hours due to unresolved financial matters with the promoter of their friendly match against Vissel Kobe. However, the issue was settled just in time, and Joan Laporta and Rafa Yuste led the Blaugrana delegation as the squad boarded an early flight for the tour.

Barcelona will face Vissel Kobe (Japan), FC Seoul, and Daegu FC (Korea) during the trip.

Rashford Headlines Squad Alongside Academy Prospects

Marcus Rashford, who joined on loan from Manchester United, is the standout name among the attacking options. The 27-year-old England international joins Roony Bardghji (from Copenhagen) as one of the most anticipated players in this pre-season.

Joan García, signed from Espanyol, is also part of the squad, strengthening the goalkeeping department in the absence of Marc-André ter Stegen, who underwent back surgery and is expected to miss up to three months.

Academy talents Toni Fernández, Guille Fernández, Dro Fernández, Kochen, Jofre Torrents, and Gerard Martin have also been included, with coach Hansi Flick continuing the club’s philosophy of promoting youth.

What to Expect on Tour

Hansi Flick is set to test new signings and youth options, especially with key players like Ter Stegen unavailable and Gündoğan on extended break after the Euros. The coach is expected to experiment with lineups while assessing tactical flexibility and squad depth ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.
