Barcelona fully trusts Koundé and decides not to move forward with Inter Milan’s Dumfries

FC Barcelona has officially pulled out of any potential move for Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries, opting instead to place full confidence in Jules Koundé as their primary option on the right flank. The update comes from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who confirmed that negotiations between the Catalan club and the Dutch international are not taking place and have been inactive since last month.

Barcelona’s decision coincides with advanced talks to renew Koundé’s contract, amid growing interest from Manchester City. The Frenchman, who transitioned from central defense to right-back last season under pressure, has since established himself as a reliable figure in the new role.

Koundé Proves His Worth in Position Switch

Initially viewed as a stopgap measure, Koundé’s shift to right-back drew internal skepticism. However, consistent performances and strong defensive metrics silenced doubts. His versatility and reliability were key to Barcelona’s domestic success, contributing to the club’s decision to halt efforts to sign Dumfries, despite previous scouting efforts.

Rodrygo Not a Target for Barcelona

Barcelona has also ruled out a sensational bid for Rodrygo from arch-rivals Real Madrid. According to Romano, no dialogue has occurred between the two clubs regarding the Brazilian forward, and no future negotiations are expected.

Real Madrid is reportedly open to selling Rodrygo, with interested parties in the Premier League, including Liverpool, who are preparing for a possible departure of Luis Díaz. Sources estimate the asking price could exceed €100 million, with the funds expected to be reinvested in the squad if the sale goes through.

Season Opener and Squad Updates

Barcelona, under new manager Hansi Flick, will begin their La Liga title defense on August 16 with an away fixture against RCD Mallorca. The squad will feature several fresh additions, including Marcus Rashford and Joan García, who have already been announced but are awaiting final registration from the club’s board.

The team is also nearing the completion of key contract renewals and roster adjustments, aiming for stability ahead of a campaign that includes both domestic and continental ambitions.
