Manchester United Ready to Sell André Onana to Fund Move for Marco Carnesecchi

Manchester United are preparing for a major change between the posts this summer. According to multiple reports, the Red Devils are seeking the departure of André Onana in order to finance the signing of Atalanta’s rising star, Marco Carnesecchi.
As the transfer window heats up, the Premier League giants have set their sights on the 23-year-old Italian goalkeeper, who impressed last season as Atalanta’s number one. The plan, according to journalist Alfredo Pedullà, is to sell Onana and reinvest the funds in a long-term solution.
Onana Out, Carnesecchi In
Onana joined Manchester United in 2023 from Inter Milan with high expectations. However, after a mixed debut season at Old Trafford, the Cameroonian is no longer seen as untouchable by the club hierarchy. The board is now open to offers, particularly from Saudi clubs.
Neom SC, newly promoted to the Saudi Super League, have emerged as one of the leading contenders to sign Onana. While no formal bid has been made, there is growing belief that an offer could arrive in early July.
Manchester United hope that a sale of Onana potentially for around £35–40 million will provide the financial backing needed to land Carnesecchi.
Marco Carnesecchi: United’s Priority Signing
Carnesecchi has been one of the standout goalkeepers in Serie A, helping Atalanta secure a top-four finish and a Europa League title. At just 23, he fits the profile of a long-term project and is admired for his ball-playing ability, shot-stopping reflexes, and maturity beyond his years.
United are reportedly ready to offer £34 million for the Italian international. They view him as the perfect replacement for Onana and are pushing to close a deal before rivals can enter the race.
Carnesecchi has also been monitored by clubs like Juventus and Napoli, but United’s aggressive approach and Premier League appeal may give them the upper hand.
