Joan Laporta Confirms Ansu Fati’s Loan Move to Monaco: “He’s Ready”

The Barcelona president expresses relief as the high-earning forward closes in on a Ligue 1 switch.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed that Ansu Fati is set to leave the club and join AS Monaco on loan. The deal, which includes a purchase option, is expected to be finalized within the week.

“If everything goes well, we could have very good news for Ansu Fati,” Laporta told Fabrizio Romano. “He is ready to join AS Monaco.”

Financial Relief for Barcelona

Ansu Fati has been one of Barcelona’s top earners despite struggling to reclaim a consistent spot in the starting XI. According to Capology, the 21-year-old earns approximately €13.5 million annually around R$90 million at current exchange rates making him the fifth-highest paid player at the club.

Laporta’s comments reflect the financial necessity of moving the striker, especially amid Barça’s ongoing efforts to meet La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations and register new signings like Joan García and Nico Williams.

Monaco Move Could Revive Fati’s Career

Fati is expected to join Monaco on a season-long loan with a buy option, which could become mandatory depending on performance-related conditions. The French club, coached by Adi Hütter, is betting on the player’s raw talent and pedigree to bolster their attacking line.

Once seen as the natural heir to Lionel Messi, Fati has struggled with injuries and consistency, including an underwhelming loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion last season.

What It Means for Barcelona and Yamal

Fati’s exit opens the door for Lamine Yamal to assume a larger role at the club. The 17-year-old sensation is reportedly being considered for the iconic No. 10 jersey, once worn by Messi, Ronaldinho, and Rivaldo.

Laporta and head coach Hansi Flick view Yamal as a cornerstone for the club’s future, and clearing salary space with Fati’s departure helps fast-track this transition.
