Paulo Fonseca’s wife reacts to Lyon coach’s harsh punishment
“Absurd, scandalous and unprecedented decision,” says Katerina
Paulo Fonseca’s wife, Katerina, describes the punishment imposed on her husband by the French League as “absurd”. The Lyon coach was suspended for 9 months due to the events of the match against Brest last Sunday: in a rage, he touchedthe head to referee Benoît Millot, after being sent off.
“9 months for a few seconds of shouting? An absurd, scandalous and unprecedented decision. What is being asked for is justice, not a political execution,” Katerina wrote on Instagram.
The suspension was announced after Paulo Fonseca was heard this Wednesday by the French league’s disciplinary committee, where he had the opportunity to defend himself.
The punishment prevents Paulo Fonseca from accessing the pitch before, during and after games, as well as the changing rooms, and he is also prohibited from performing any official function until November 30. Until September 15, in addition to the aforementioned prohibitions, the 52-year-old coach is also prevented from being present at access points to the pitch or any of the previously mentioned areas, before, during and after games.
