Atlético fans complain after Álvarez’s penalty is disallowed

The penalty that caused a lot of controversy continues to cause water to flow under the bridge. After a joint meeting that lasted until 11pm last Thursday, three Atlético Madrid fan groups announced that they will take legal action against UEFA over Julián Alvarez’s disallowed penalty for two touches in the tiebreaker against Real Madrid , in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League .

Refereeing expert Pedro Henriques analyses, for A BOLA, the unusual situation in Atlético Madrid-Real Madrid, with the penalty disallowed for Julián Álvarez due to two touches on the ball at the moment of the Argentine’s shot

It was in this tiebreaker that Atlético were eliminated by Real Madrid and, after successfully shooting, the Argentine saw his penalty disallowed by VAR, as he slipped and touched the ball twice. However, the fan clubs Unión A Senado Rojiblanco , Los 50 and Señales de Humo joined the Atlético Madrid Supporters’ Union in claiming that the images shown had been manipulated and edited, and have even presented reports that claim this.

The objective now is, according to the statement released by the various groups, “to create a working team made up of lawyers of recognized prestige, who will be responsible for designing the most appropriate legal strategy to move forward with the aforementioned complaint as quickly as possible.”
