Lukaku recalls nightmare: “I experienced things I never imagined”

Romelu Lukaku , 31, recalled his time as a Chelsea player in an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport .

The Belgian rediscovered his love of football at Napoli, with whom he signed a contract until 2027, but the wounds of his troubled past at the Blues have left their mark.

Chelsea signed him in 2011 from Anderlecht , then loaned him to West Bromwich and then to Everton , to whom they sold the striker in 2014. Seven years later, Chelsea recovered Lukaku , paying 113 million euros to Inter , but in the summer of 2022 he was loaned to the Nerazzurri team , and then to Roma .

The Belgian’s nightmare only ended last summer, when the Londoners sold him permanently to Napoli . However, he was left with a deep trauma. “It wasn’t just me who felt bad at Chelsea . Aubameyang and Ziyech were also not part of the plans As a result, we were told to get dressed in the training changing rooms.”

“That’s how the business works. The club’s management says they no longer count on you and, often, even dictates where you go. But if you want to leave and have valid reasons to do so, you don’t have a chance. He is constantly pressured, to the point of exhaustion,” Lukaku said of Chelsea ‘s policy regarding players they intend to release.

The Belgian international also stated that “clubs have connections in the press and it is easy to put a player in a difficult situation or build a false image for him.” “I experienced things I never thought I would experience,” he summed up.

“One day I want to explain all this to young players. I want them to understand who really works for them and who works against them,” he concluded.

Lukaku has 10 goals and 9 assists in 28 games for Napoli , between Serie A and Coppa Italia.
