CONMEBOL president accused of racism over Tarzan reference
Alejandro Domínguez is the target of criticism after stating that the Copa Libertadores without Brazilian clubs would be like “Tarzan without Cheetah”, in reference to the chimpanzee actor in the 1930s and 1940s

Alejandro Domínguez, president of CONMEBOL, is facing criticism after making statements that are being considered racist.
During the draw for the group stages of the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana, the president was asked about what the continental competitions would be like without Brazil. “It would be like Tarzan without Cheetah. Impossible,” said the leader, referring to the chimpanzee actor who appeared on the big screen in the 1930s and 1940s.
The controversy comes after Cerro Porteño from Uruguay was punished after racist comments were made by fans to Luighi during an under-20 match against Palmeiras , managed by Abel Ferreira. Leila Pereira, the club’s president, was not present during the draw and has already threatened to boycott the competition.
