In the face of much criticism of Jurgen Klopp for accepting a job at Red Bull, which includes Leipzig , one of the rivals of Dortmund and Mainz , two of his former clubs, Jamie Carragher came out in defense of the 57-year-old coach.

“I think it’s nonsense, he’s a certain type of coach, a man of the people. There’s a feeling in Germany , I understand the model, but this is completely different. But does Klopp have to cling to the ideals of Mainz and Borussia Dortmund for the rest of his life? We’re all hypocrites, if someone offers us enough money, we’ll probably do it anyway,” he began by saying, on Paramount+, before downplaying the role he will occupy.

“He’s not the coach, he’s overseeing something, talking to people, going to some meetings, going to some games and he’s probably getting paid a lot of money. If they’re so against the Red Bull model, why did Dortmund buy Haaland ? If they’re so against their model, then don’t buy and sell players with them. They ended up buying the best striker in the world and selling him to City for a few cents,” he said, also praising the Austrian company’s teams, which help young players reach the highest level.

«Teams and people in Germany don’t like the way Red Bull does things, I kind of like it. They give young players a chance, get them uncut gems, develop them and sell them like diamonds. I think it’s a fantastic model that many clubs are trying to copy,” he explained.
