Bundesliga: Bayer Leverkusen beats Dortmund and puts pressure on Bayern
The debut of the German championship in 2025 was made with a great game, between two teams increasingly far apart in the league table
Borussia Dortmund lost at home to Bayer Leverkusen by 3-2, in a game of the 16th round of the Bundesliga in which they had several important absences, especially in defense, which meant that, in the first half, almost everything went wrong for Nuri Sahin’s team, who failed to get their defensive markings right and conceded three goals in 20 minutes.
But in between, Jamie Gittens (12′) proved that Dortmund, despite their difficulties, were looking for a better result.
That was what happened in the second half. Leverkusen’s result management didn’t go as well as it should and Schick missed a hat-trick in a scandalous fashion, when he only had Gregor Kobel to play against. Borussia grew into the match and believed in the goal, which came through a penalty converted by Serhou Guirassy (79′), after Tapsoba had put his hand in Duranville ‘s face .
Leverkusen were looking to extend their eight-game winning streak and inflict their first home defeat of the season on Dortmund in the Bundesliga. They managed to do so despite struggling in the second half, in a game in which they barely created any chances after the break. But it was enough to move within one point of leaders Bayern , who play Monchengladbach this Saturday. Dortmund have 25 points, 11 behind the leaders and could still drop to 10th place this matchday.
