PSG president and his departure from the Parc des Princes: “Otherwise we’re dead”
Parisians are planning to build a new stadium in the Île-de-France region. The decision has been criticized by the Paris City Council, which owns the Parc des Princes.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of PSG , has once again addressed the possibility of leaving the Parc des Princes. The Parisians have the goal of building a new stadium in the Île-de-France region (more specifically in Élancourt). However, this decision has been criticized by the Paris City Council, which owns the Parc des Princes and has an agreement with PSG that foresees the club playing its home games there until… 2044.
“I really like the Parc des Princes, everyone loves it. If I were to decide with my heart I would say that we would not leave the Parc des Princes. But when I think with my head, we are dead,” he began by saying, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the new training centre located in Poissy.
“In Europe, all the big clubs have stadiums with 80, 90 or 100 thousand seats. We need that, otherwise we are dead. If we want to be at the same level as other clubs and in terms of financial fair play… we need our stadium. We have no other solution. We are leaving. We have no choice. The city has not given us any other choice. It is the city’s decision, because we cannot do what we want in the stadium,” he added.
