Already champion PSG ends Ligue 1 with victory over Auxerre

Paris Saint-Germain ended their Ligue 1 title-winning season with a 3-1 win over Auxerre at the Parc des Princes, in which Gonçalo Ramos missed a penalty. Elsewhere in France, Paulo Fonseca’s Lyon were relying on other results to reach the Champions League, but their 2-0 win over Angers only served to secure the Conference League.

PSG had already secured the title six weeks ago, in a campaign that could end with a treble if they win the Coupe de France and the Champions League. Luis Enrique lined up with a strong eleven, with the Portuguese Nuno Mendes, Vitinha and João Neves , while Gonçalo Ramos started on the bench.

The Stars tried to make their mark early on, but Marquinhos headed over from a Nuno Mendes corner and Ousmane Dembélé was denied by Donovan Léon . Auxerre were sitting comfortably in mid-table, and Lassine Sinayoko gave the visitors a surprise lead on 31 minutes. The goal came with alarming simplicity, the Malian having rounded Willian Pacho from Gaëtan Perrin ‘s pass and fired past Gianluigi Donnarumma .

Nuno Mendes almost levelled the scores with a free-kick but the hosts were still trailing at the break. Dembélé was at the centre of the champions’ attacking play after the restart. Léon was called into action once more to deny PSG’s No.10 before the forward had another effort tipped over the bar after being found by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia .

The Georgian equalised in the 59th minute with a right-footed strike from the edge of the box as Parisians kept pressing. Marquinhos completed the comeback eight minutes later when the captain’s far-post header from Mendes’ corner hit the bar.

The Portuguese full-back was involved again when he was brought down by Sinaly Diomandé in the box. However, Gonçalo Ramos saw his penalty saved by Léon. There was still time for Kvaratskhelia to close the scoring, with a close-range shot after a superb run and pass from Senny Mayulu .

This result means PSG now sit 19 points clear of Olympique Marseille at the top of the table, while Christophe Pélissier ‘s side end their campaign in a respectable 11th place, having been crowned Ligue 2 champions last season.
