Gary Neville Reveals Private Man Utd “Manager Search” Talks as Michael Carrick Pressure Builds

Despite Carrick’s unbeaten streak, Neville warns United against the “Solskjaer mistake” and reveals the club’s official stance on a permanent appointment.

The Official Stance: United Begin Search for “Elite” Manager

Manchester United have officially started the process of identifying their next permanent manager, despite the sensational form of interim boss Michael Carrick.

Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of the Everton clash, Gary Neville revealed he reached out to the club to clarify their position. According to Neville, the board is already “analysing data” on world-class candidates to avoid being forced into a decision based solely on recent momentum.

“The club told me they’ve begun the process,” Neville shared. “They are looking for another manager and building the data, but they won’t be bounced into an appointment irrespective of results over the next two months.”

Avoiding the “Solskjaer Risk”

While Carrick remains undefeated with major scalps including Manchester City and Arsenal Neville remains cautious. He argues that United must pursue the “best class of manager available” to minimize the risks associated with young, inexperienced coaches.

“We’ve seen it with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer; it’s a difficult situation when an ex-player comes in,” Neville warned. “I love Michael to bits, but Manchester United should go for a proven, world-class option to remove as much risk as possible.”

However, the options for United are narrowing. With Thomas Tuchel recently recommitting to the England national team, the pool of elite, available managers is shrinking, which naturally strengthens Carrick’s case.

Would Carrick Even Say Yes?

A fascinating twist in the managerial saga is whether Michael Carrick actually wants the permanent pressure of the Old Trafford dugout. Neville suggested that Carrick’s loyalty to the club might lead him to step aside for a more experienced figure.

“Michael is the type of guy who always works in the best interest of the football club,” Neville noted. “He might even say no, or he might feel comfortable enough to put his name in the hat if he secures Champions League qualification.”

With United currently fifth and looking to leapfrog Chelsea, every win makes it harder for the board to look elsewhere.
