Arsenal ignores Real Madrid’s bid for Saliba and hopes for renewal

Arsenal has firmly rejected a bid exceeding €100 million from Real Madrid for star defender William Saliba, signaling their intent to keep the French international at the heart of Mikel Arteta’s project.

Despite intensifying interest from the Spanish giants, the Premier League runners-up have made it clear that Saliba is not for sale, regardless of the offer. Sources within the club describe the player as “untouchable” and central to the team’s defensive structure.

Madrid Views Saliba as Key to Defensive Future

According to AS, Real Madrid considers the 24-year-old a priority target in their search for long-term replacements for veterans Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba. Saliba’s consistent performances since breaking into Arsenal’s starting lineup in 2022 have made him one of Europe’s most sought-after center-backs.

However, Arsenal’s stance remains unshaken. The club believes the player is fully committed to the North London side and is already working behind the scenes on a contract extension beyond 2027.

Arsenal Remains Firm Amid Ongoing Interest

Saliba, who joined Arsenal from Saint-Étienne as a teenager, is viewed internally as one of the foundational pieces in Arteta’s vision for a title-winning squad. With his current contract running until June 2027, the Gunners are under no pressure to sell.

“Saliba is a technical and psychological pillar of Arteta’s system,” a club source told local media. “The idea is to build around him, not cash in.”

Real Madrid Considering Alternatives

With Arsenal refusing to negotiate, Real Madrid has reportedly turned its attention to other names, including Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté, whose contract is approaching its final stages. Still, Saliba remains Los Blancos’ preferred option, should an opportunity reopen in the future.

A Key Player for Arsenal’s Ambitions

As Arsenal prepares for the 2025/26 season, Saliba remains a guaranteed starter and a leader on the pitch. His presence is viewed as crucial to Arsenal’s return to elite European contention, following two consecutive Champions League qualifications under Arteta.
