While Oliver Glasner’s stock falls, Carrick admits he is already ‘planning for the future’ at Old Trafford ahead of Monday’s clash with Everton.
Michael Carrick is no longer just “holding the fort” at Old Trafford. Following a sensational run of four wins in five games including scalps against Manchester City, Arsenal, and Tottenham the interim boss has officially confirmed his desire to lead Manchester United into a new era.
Despite the club’s initial plan to wait until the summer to name a permanent successor to Ruben Amorim, Carrick’s impact has been undeniable. With Oliver Glasner set to leave Crystal Palace, the pressure is mounting on the United hierarchy to reward the man who has restored the club’s identity.
“The Ultimate Role”: Carrick’s Vision
In a candid interview with BBC Sport, Carrick moved past the usual interim rhetoric, stating that he is managing the club with a long-term mindset.
“For me, it’s the ultimate role. I love what I’m doing,” Carrick said. “There’s the sentimental side of understanding the club, but I’m here to do a job to make a good team and be successful. I always plan for the long-term future for the benefit of the football club. That’s how it should be.”
A Club Reborn Under the Lights
Carrick’s “ruthless but calm” approach has reportedly won over both the dressing room and the Carrington staff. He praised the atmosphere at the club, describing it as an “incredible” place to be every day.
“The staff are fantastic, the players have been unbelievable,” he added. “The support globally is very hard to describe it’s incredible. I’m delighted to be here.”
The Road to Goodison Park
The next test for “Carrick’s United” comes this Monday night (February 23). The Red Devils travel to face Everton at Goodison Park, looking to extend their five-game unbeaten streak.
With United currently sitting fourth, just one point ahead of Chelsea, a victory under the lights would make it increasingly difficult for Sir Jim Ratcliffe to look anywhere else for a permanent manager this summer.
