New signing Gabriel Paulista and Yuri Alberto secure a 2-0 win as Jorge Carrascal sees red in a bizarre post-halftime dismissal.

The first major trophy of the 2026 Brazilian season belongs to Corinthians. In a high-stakes encounter at the Estádio Mané Garrincha, the Alvinegro defeated Flamengo 2-0 to lift their second Supercopa do Brasil title. While Corinthians displayed a vibrant and aggressive style, Flamengo struggled with a “bureaucratic” and apathetic performance that cost them the match.

The “Delayed” Red Card and First Half Dominance

The turning point of the match involved a bizarre refereeing moment. After referee Rafael Klein had already blown the whistle for halftime, he was called to the VAR to review an incident involving Flamengo’s Jorge Carrascal and Breno Bidon. Following the review, Carrascal was sent off for aggression, leaving Flamengo with 10 men before the second half even began.

Earlier in the 25th minute, Corinthians had already drawn blood. After a well-worked corner routine, Gustavo Henrique headed the ball toward the six-yard box, where debutant Gabriel Paulista fired home a stunning volley to make it 1-0.

Sealing the Trophy

With a man advantage, Ramón Díaz’s side controlled the tempo of the second half. Despite some heated exchanges and hard tackles including a yellow card for Memphis Depay and defensive efforts from Lucas Paquetá—Flamengo couldn’t find a way back into the game.

In the closing stages, Yuri Alberto clinical finish sealed the 2-0 victory, sparking wild celebrations among the Corinthians faithful. The win marks Corinthians’ second Supercopa (following their 1991 triumph), while Flamengo remains the record holder with three titles (2020, 2021, 2025).

Social Media Stir: “Father or Stepfather?”

The rivalry was ignited even before kick-off. In a rare joint post, both clubs poked fun at Palmeiras, mocking their recent runner-up finishes. Corinthians reminded fans of their Paulistão victory over Verdão, while Flamengo highlighted their Libertadores triumph, asking the cheeky question: “Father or stepfather?”
