Aboubakar gives São Paulo green light but demands quick answer from the board

Aboubakar gives São Paulo green light but demands quick answer from the board

Cameroonian striker, famous for his goal against Brazil in the 2022 World Cup, could reinforce Tricolor in the Brasileirão.

São Paulo weighs move for Aboubakar

São Paulo has a chance to add an experienced striker for the rest of the season. Vincent Aboubakar, free on the market after leaving Hatayspor, has shown openness to play in Brazil and even accepted a salary reduction to fit the club’s financial conditions.

However, the 33-year-old striker has set a deadline: he expects a final answer from the São Paulo board by Wednesday (10), according to Bolavip Brasil.

Why Aboubakar is an option

The Tricolor is short on center forwards after injuries to André Silva and Jonathan Calleri, which has accelerated the search for reinforcements. Aboubakar’s availability on a free transfer makes him an immediate solution without transfer fees.

Still, his salary demands, even reduced, are not considered low for São Paulo’s current financial standards.

Aboubakar’s career highlights

  • Clubs: Porto, Besiktas, Al-Nassr, Hatayspor.
  • Stats at Besiktas: 74 goals in 117 appearances.
  • National team: 113 games, 45 goals for Cameroon.
  • World Cups: Played in 2014, 2018, and 2022 — remembered for scoring the winning goal against Brazil in Qatar.

Previous São Paulo attempt

Recently, the club also tried to sign Marcos Leonardo from Al-Hilal, but negotiations stalled as the Saudi club refused to release the young forward. Despite that, São Paulo continues to seek attacking solutions to stay competitive in the Brasileirão.
