Barcelona star Dani Olmo has sent a clear message to Hansi Flick ahead of their Champions League clash against FC Copenhagen, reaffirming his preference for the “Number 10” role despite the club’s current injury crisis.

The Tactical Dilemma

Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Wednesday, the 27-year-old Spaniard was candid about where he feels most effective on the pitch. With key midfielders Pedri and Frenkie de Jong sidelined, Olmo may be forced into a deeper, more central role a challenge he is prepared to accept for the sake of the collective.

“The position where I feel most comfortable is as a number 10. It’s where I move best, operating between the lines and finding space between the defenders and midfielders,” Olmo explained. “However, I have no problem taking on more responsibility in a central role. I’ve done it this season and in the past, and I’ll do it again if the team needs me.”

With the absence of Barça’s usual midfield anchors, Olmo highlighted that internal solutions like Marc Casadó, Marc Bernal, and Eric García are also ready. Yet, Olmo’s clinical form makes him the focal point of Flick’s attack.

According to Transfermarkt data, Olmo is the ultimate “Swiss Army Knife” for Barcelona, having played in five different positions throughout his career—including both wings and even as a “false nine.”

Olmo’s 25/26 Season in Numbers

Despite alternating between the starting XI and the bench, Olmo’s impact has been undeniable this season:

  • Appearances: 24 matches (12 starts).
  • Direct Goal Contributions: 11 (7 goals, 4 assists).

As Barcelona looks to secure a vital win against the Danish champions, Olmo’s ability to adapt his game could be the deciding factor in maintaining the Blaugrana’s momentum on the European stage.
