Despite a massive offer from the Saudi giants, Benfica’s top scorer is reportedly reluctant to abandon his European campaign in the middle of the season.
Benfica’s season under José Mourinho has been a rollercoaster, and now the “Special One” faces a major challenge to keep his most clinical weapon. Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal have reportedly launched a staggering €50 million bid to sign Greek striker Vangelis Pavlidis.
According to Canto das Transferências and confirmed by journalist Sacha Tavolieri, negotiations between Pavlidis’ representatives and the Saudi club are already underway. However, the move has hit a significant roadblock: the player himself.
Europe Over Money?
Despite the “astronomical” figures on the table, Pavlidis has expressed his desire to stay at the Estádio da Luz until at least the end of the current season. At 27, the striker is at his professional peak and is reportedly wary of leaving European football while his stock is so high especially with Manchester United also keeping a close eye on his situation.
The “Goal Machine” Stats

Pavlidis has become the undisputed reference point for Benfica’s attack this season. His numbers speak for themselves:
- Appearances: 35
- Goals: 24
- Assists: 3
- Total Goal Involvements: 27
His consistency has also made him the star of the Greek National Team, where he remains a vital part of their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Al-Hilal’s Ambition
If the deal goes through, it would mark Pavlidis’ first experience outside of Europe, following successful stints at AZ Alkmaar, Willem II, and Borussia Dortmund. For Al-Hilal, landing Pavlidis would be another statement of intent, adding one of Europe’s top-five leading scorers to their star-studded roster.
While Al-Hilal is pushing for a January move, the Greek international seems determined to finish what he started under Mourinho, leaving the door open for a potential summer blockbuster instead.
