PARIS – Atlético Madrid’s pursuit of Lee Kang-in has hit a brick wall. Despite the Spanish club’s best efforts to bring the South Korean star back to La Liga, PSG have officially informed Los Colchoneros that the attacking midfielder will not be allowed to leave during the current January transfer window.
According to transfer expert Matteo Moretto, PSG’s management communicated their final decision internally after Atlético’s sporting director, Mateu Alemany, traveled to Paris to negotiate. PSG were reportedly unwilling to even discuss a price tag or loan structure, effectively ending Atlético’s hopes of a mid-season coup.
Luis Enrique’s Stance The decision is largely driven by manager Luis Enrique. Faced with a mounting injury list and a thin squad, the Spanish coach views Lee Kang-in as a “strategic asset” for the second half of the season.

Lee’s versatility is crucial for the Parisian giants as they compete on multiple fronts. Instead of a sale, PSG are reportedly considering an extension of the player’s current contract, which is already set to run until June 2028.
Atlético’s Priority Denied For Diego Simeone, the news comes as a significant blow. The Atlético hierarchy viewed the 24-year-old as their top priority to bolster the midfield creativity. While Atlético explored both permanent and loan-with-obligation-to-buy deals, PSG’s “firm stance” means the Madrid club must now pivot to other targets before the deadline.
