Mario Balotelli reveals his desire to play for Real Madrid: “I still have a dream to fulfill”

Mario Balotelli has once again expressed his long-held desire to play for Real Madrid, admitting that the dream remains alive despite being 34 years old and currently without a club. In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian striker was candid: “I still have a dream to fulfill: playing for Real Madrid.”
Balotelli’s career has taken him through some of Europe’s top leagues, with spells at Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Manchester City, but the move to the Santiago Bernabéu has never materialized. His path to the Spanish giants now appears unlikely, with competition for the striker role fierce. Kylian Mbappé leads the line for Madrid, while Brazilian prodigy Endrick and academy talent Gonzalo García provide depth from the bench under coach Xabi Alonso.
Following his departure from Genoa in July, Balotelli remains on the market, evaluating offers as he seeks to extend a professional career that has been both prolific and turbulent.
Prolific Numbers Despite Decline
According to Transfermarkt, Balotelli has amassed 501 career appearances, scoring 210 goals and delivering 42 assists. His resume spans Italy, England, France, Turkey, and Switzerland, showcasing a blend of talent and experience across multiple competitions.
Missed Opportunities in Brazilian Football
Brazilian clubs have made attempts to secure Balotelli’s signature in recent years. In 2019, Flamengo engaged in advanced talks but ultimately withdrew after negotiations stalled. More recently, in July 2024, Corinthians pursued the Italian before shifting focus to Memphis Depay, now one of the highest-paid players in Brazil.
For Balotelli, the Real Madrid dream may remain unfulfilled, but his career and his willingness to embrace new challenges is not over yet.
