Barcelona are facing a major dilemma regarding Ansu Fati’s future. After a blistering start to his loan spell at AS Monaco, the 23-year-old’s form has plummeted, leaving the Saudi Pro League as the most realistic destination for the former “Number 10.”

The “Monaco Miracle” Fades

Ansu Fati arrived in Ligue 1 for the 2025/26 season with high expectations. The initial signs were spectacular: six goals in his first five matches, leading many to believe the Spaniard had finally overcome his long-term injury struggles.

However, the resurgence was short-lived. In his subsequent 11 appearances, Fati has managed just a single goal. According to journalist Adrián Sánchez, this decline has cooled the interest of elite European clubs, making a permanent move within the continent increasingly unlikely.

A Career at a Crossroads

Since inheriting Lionel Messi’s iconic jersey, Fati has struggled to maintain consistency:

  • 2023/24 (Brighton): 27 games, 5 goal involvements failed to secure a permanent move.
  • 2024/25 (Barcelona): Only 11 appearances under Hansi Flick before being deemed surplus to requirements.
  • Current Status: Contracted until June 2028, but Barcelona are eager to offload his wages to fund new signings.

The Saudi Pro League Option

With Barcelona’s hierarchy desperate to balance the books, the Saudi Pro League has emerged as a concrete solution. While Fati previously resisted moves outside of Europe, the lack of suitors in the Champions League circle may force his hand.

Barcelona are reportedly open to a permanent sale, hoping to capitalize on whatever market value the young forward still retains before his contract enters its final years.

Tactical Shift under Hansi Flick

As Fati’s future hangs in the balance, Hansi Flick continues to reshape the Barcelona attack. With Robert Lewandowski also nearing a potential exit to MLS, the club is preparing for a massive offensive overhaul in the summer of 2026. The departure of Fati would provide the necessary “salary cap” space to pursue top-tier targets like Bernardo Silva.
