Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has issued a strong statement regarding Ousmane Dembélé’s contract negotiations. Despite the winger’s recent Ballon d’Or triumph, the club’s leadership insists that their strict financial structure will not be compromised.

The “Ballon d’Or” Conflict

According to reports from L’Équipe, Ousmane Dembélé has requested a significant salary increase following his historic Ballon d’Or win. While the Frenchman’s current deal at the Parc des Princes runs until June 2028, the player and his representatives are reportedly seeking a package that reflects his status as the world’s best player.

Dembélé currently earns a staggering €1.5 million per month, making him the highest-paid player in the PSG squad. However, the 28-year-old recently rejected an initial renewal offer, sparking rumors of interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Speaking to Canal+, Nasser Al-Khelaifi praised Dembélé’s talent but remained immovable on the club’s “salary cap” policy:

“Ousmane is a legend and a wonderful person, but the club’s policy is clear: there is a salary cap that everyone must respect,” Al-Khelaifi stated. “No one is more important than the club. We love Ousmane as a player, but we will not make financial extravagances that jeopardize our project.”

A Shift in PSG Philosophy

The president’s comments signal a definitive end to the era of “blank check” renewals in Paris. By maintaining a fixed financial cap, PSG aims to build a more sustainable and balanced squad, even if it means risking the departure of their biggest stars.

As negotiations continue, the football world is watching closely to see if the Ballon d’Or winner will prioritize his legacy in Paris or seek a more lucrative deal elsewhere.
