The “50% Clause” Complicating Juve’s Move for Celta Star
Juventus sporting director Marco Ottolini has reportedly held meetings with Celta Vigo to discuss the potential signing of Oscar Mingueza. However, the deal is far from simple. While Mingueza’s contract is set to expire in June 2026, Barcelona still looms large over the negotiation.
When Mingueza left the Nou Camp for Celta, Barça retained a 50% sell-on clause. This means Celta would only pocket half of any transfer fee, leading the Galician club to hold out for his full €20 million release clause to maximize their profit.
Celta Vigo’s Stance: European Ambitions at Stake

Celta Vigo is currently enjoying a stellar season, sitting in 7th place in La Liga with 29 points and competing strongly in the Europa League. Losing Mingueza now would be a massive sporting blow:
- The Iron Man: Mingueza has made 23 appearances this season, the third-most in the squad.
- Versatility: Only Borja Iglesias and Iago Aspas have been more crucial to the team’s tactical setup.

The “Plan B” and the Chiesa Situation

With the Mingueza deal proving difficult due to Barcelona’s financial interest, Juventus is exploring alternatives. According to Gazzetta Dello Sport:
- Noussair Mazraoui: The Manchester United fullback has emerged as a serious “Plan B.”
- Federico Chiesa: Juve’s attempt to bring back their former star on loan from Liverpool was recently rejected, according to the BBC, forcing the Italian giants to look elsewhere for offensive reinforcements.
