Liverpool have reportedly shut the door on a potential loan return to Juventus for Federico Chiesa, with the Reds only willing to consider a permanent sale this January.
Despite Juventus expressing interest in bringing the Italian winger back to Turin on a temporary basis, Liverpool journalist James Pearce reports that the Anfield hierarchy has ruled out any loan deal. The club’s stance is firm: Chiesa will only leave if a suitable permanent offer arrives and a replacement is secured.
The Barcola Connection
The primary reason behind Liverpool’s refusal to loan Chiesa is their ambitious pursuit of PSG starlet Bradley Barcola. According to BBC Sport, Arne Slot is a huge admirer of the young Frenchman, who is currently frustrated with his limited playing time under Luis Enrique in Paris.
Liverpool’s strategy is clear: use the funds generated from a potential Chiesa sale to Juventus estimated at approximately £12-15 million to launch a serious bid for Barcola. The PSG winger believes he has the quality to be a regular starter and is open to a move to the Premier League to reignite his career.

While Federico Chiesa has proven to be a valuable asset coming off the bench, he has yet to become “untouchable” in Arne Slot’s system. The Dutch manager is looking for more explosive pace on the flanks, a profile that Bradley Barcola fits perfectly.
However, Liverpool will not leave themselves short. The board has made it clear that Chiesa will not be sold until a “suitable replacement” is finalized. If Juventus meets the asking price and the Barcola deal progresses, the Italian’s short spell in England could come to a premature end.
Looking Ahead: Juventus vs. PSG
As the January window enters its final stages, the pressure is on Juventus to match Liverpool’s valuation. For Chiesa, the lure of returning to Serie A is strong, but his fate remains tied to Liverpool’s ability to land Barcola.
