Flamengo have intensified their search for a new striker and have added Chelsea forward Deivid Washington to their list of targets ahead of the next phase of the Brazilian season. With reinforcements in attack considered a top priority, the Rio de Janeiro club are expanding their options beyond previously monitored names such as Kaio Jorge and Marcos Leonardo.
Under the guidance of Filipe Luís, Flamengo are actively surveying the market after failing to secure Kaio Jorge. Marcos Leonardo remains a highly rated option, but the club is now exploring alternative profiles that could fit both sporting and financial plans.
According to journalist Renan Moura, Deivid Washington has emerged as one of the names being closely monitored, alongside Kauã Elias and Colombian striker Luis Suárez. The club’s strategy is to keep multiple options open as negotiations in the market remain complex.
Deivid Washington draws Flamengo attention
A product of Santos’ academy, Deivid Washington is currently under contract with Chelsea, where he has been featuring mainly for the club’s under-21 side. Despite his young age, the Brazilian striker has already made appearances for Chelsea’s first team.
This season, Deivid has played six matches at under-21 level but is yet to score. Last year, he returned to Brazil on loan to Santos, where he featured in 20 matches. However, his stint was marked by limited impact, as he managed just one goal during that period.
Even so, Chelsea continue to view the forward as a player with strong potential. Across his spells with the club’s under-21 team, Deivid Washington has recorded 19 goals and seven assists in 36 appearances, numbers that have caught Flamengo’s attention.
Marcos Leonardo remains main target amid market challenges
While Deivid Washington is firmly on Flamengo’s radar, Marcos Leonardo remains the club’s primary objective. The striker has been in excellent form for Al-Hilal this season, scoring 11 goals in 16 appearances, including a goal in the recent 2-0 win over Damac.
Despite his performances, a deal for Marcos Leonardo appears difficult at this stage. Al-Hilal are reluctant to negotiate his release during the current transfer window, particularly following recent squad changes involving João Cancelo.
Other options monitored as Flamengo weigh alternatives
Kauã Elias is another name under consideration after impressing at Shakhtar Donetsk, where he has scored 11 goals in 26 matches. Colombian striker Luis Suárez has also been discussed internally, though Sporting have no intention of selling the player, who was signed as Viktor Gyökeres’ replacement.
As Flamengo continue to evaluate the market, the club remains focused on securing a striker capable of making an immediate impact. With multiple profiles under analysis, the coming weeks are expected to be decisive in shaping the squad for the remainder of the season.
