Real Madrid could agree to a move for defender Raúl Asencio to Sevilla

Raúl Asencio could leave Real Madrid in January after falling out of favor with coach Xabi Alonso, with Sevilla already in talks for a loan deal.

Sevilla Open Negotiations

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Sevilla has initiated contact with Real Madrid over the potential signing of 22-year-old defender Raúl Asencio. The move would likely be a loan in the upcoming January transfer window, giving the youngster an opportunity to gain more regular playing time.

Decline in Role Under Alonso

Once considered a rising star in Madrid’s backline, Asencio’s standing has diminished since Alonso took charge. He has not played a single minute this season, sitting on the bench for the opening three matches and then being left out of subsequent squads altogether.

From Promise to Uncertainty

Promoted to the first team last season, Asencio featured in 46 matches and began his career with promising performances. However, errors during the Club World Cup dented his reputation, and he has since struggled to regain trust within the squad.

Sevilla’s Ambitions

Sevilla, seven-time Europa League champions, view Asencio as a reinforcement for a defense that has lacked consistency in recent years. The Andalusian side recently added veteran striker Alexis Sánchez, and the arrival of Asencio would mark another attempt to rebuild around experience and youth.

Madrid’s Defensive Plans

While open to offloading Asencio, Real Madrid are also planning reinforcements. Club president Florentino Pérez continues to prioritize Arsenal’s William Saliba, while Micky van de Ven of Tottenham has also emerged as a possible target for 2026.
