Barcelona confirm new injury to Frenkie de Jong, Dutchman suffers 13th injury for the club

Barcelona have confirmed a new injury to Frenkie de Jong, who left the pitch during FIFA Day with the Netherlands national team. The Dutch midfielder suffered a minor muscle problem and will miss the next LaLiga clash against Valencia, the club announced on its official X profile.

De Jong’s worrying injury history

This latest setback marks the 13th injury of De Jong’s career at Barcelona. According to Transfermarkt, the 28-year-old has already missed 377 days and 70 matches since his arrival at Camp Nou due to recurring physical issues.

The Catalan club has not set a recovery timetable, preferring a cautious approach to avoid relapses. For coach Hansi Flick, the absence is a fresh blow in a squad already dealing with multiple injuries.

Gavi’s situation worsens

Adding to the concern, midfielder Gavi is also under medical observation. Initially diagnosed with knee discomfort, the youngster may now require surgery, which could sideline him for a long period.

With both midfielders at risk, Flick is expected to rely on Marc Casadó alongside Pedri, while promising youngster Marc Bernal may also earn more minutes.

More absentees for Barcelona

The injury crisis extends beyond midfield. Alejandro Balde remains sidelined and is not expected back until October. His absence further complicates Flick’s start to the season, as the coach is forced to turn to youth players to keep the squad competitive.
