Inter turned down Allegri’s offer and chose Cristian Chivu as new coach, says journalist

Inter Milan had the chance to appoint Massimiliano Allegri, but the board opted against the experienced Italian and instead handed the job to Cristian Chivu, according to journalist Fabrizio Biasin on TeleLombardia.
Allegri offered himself, but was not the right profile
Biasin revealed that Allegri’s services were offered directly to Inter through a phone call. However, CEO Giuseppe Marotta, sporting director Piero Ausilio, and the club’s owners preferred to go in a different direction.
“Not because they don’t value him. Everyone knows how good he is. But because Inter wanted someone young and fresh,” Biasin explained.
Chivu takes charge with club DNA
The choice fell on Cristian Chivu, who officially took over in June 2025 after a brief stint at Parma. The former Romanian defender played seven seasons for Inter, including a starring role in the historic 2010 Champions League triumph, making him a fan favorite and a figure closely tied to the club’s identity.
Bold project instead of safe option
While Allegri would have brought the experience of a multi-title-winning coach from his time at Juventus, Inter’s management decided to invest in a long-term vision. Chivu, still in the early stages of his managerial career, was seen as someone who could bring continuity, connect with fans, and embody a modern style of football.
For Inter, the appointment reflects a bet on identity and future growth rather than the short-term guarantee of results offered by Allegri.
