Aymeric Laporte leaves Al-Nassr and guarantees return to Athletic Bilbao

Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte has ended his adventure in Saudi Arabia and is set to return to Athletic Bilbao, the club where he began his professional career.

Laporte Returns to His Roots

After just one season in the Saudi Pro League, Laporte agreed to rejoin Athletic Bilbao, closing a brief chapter with Al-Nassr. The 30-year-old defender, who left Europe in 2023 after spells at Manchester City and Athletic itself, is now heading back to LaLiga.

For Al-Nassr, his departure comes at a crucial moment, with the Saudi transfer window still open until September 10, giving the club time to secure a replacement.

Al-Nassr’s Defensive Plans Without Laporte

Coach Jorge Jesus is already reshaping the team’s backline. Reports indicate that Mohamed Simakan and Iñigo Martínez are being lined up as the new defensive pairing.

Laporte’s exit adds to the uncertainty surrounding Al-Nassr’s defense, as Brazilian goalkeeper Bento may also leave after failing to convince the coaching staff.

Limited Market Options for Bento

With Europe’s top leagues closed after September 1, opportunities for Bento are restricted. Only Greece, Turkey, and Russia remain open for potential transfers in Europe, while Saudi clubs still have flexibility until the 10th.

Signed for €18 million in 2024, Bento has faced criticism for inconsistent performances, leaving his future in Riyadh in doubt.

Al-Nassr’s Schedule After FIFA Break

Despite the transfer-market turmoil, Al-Nassr started the Saudi League strongly, thrashing Al-Taawoun 5-0 in their debut. After the international break, they will face Al-Kholood on September 14 at 3 p.m. (Brasília time).
