Guardiola suggests extending his stay at Manchester City: “Maybe another two years”

Pep Guardiola, already in his 10th season with Manchester City, has suggested he could extend his contract beyond 2027, highlighting his comfort at the club and confidence in the squad.

Contract renewal on the horizon

Speaking on the Men In Blazers podcast, Guardiola said he feels motivated to continue his journey in Manchester:

“I have two years left on my contract, and maybe I’ll extend it for another two years. The question is when I’ll stop—this year, in two years, or in four. I’ll take a break, but I feel good right now. I love this city.”

According to Transfermarkt, Guardiola’s current deal runs until June 30, 2027, but the coach admitted that his long tenure reflects how at home he feels at the Etihad.

A decade of success with the Citizens

The Spanish manager took charge of City in 2016, building one of the most dominant teams in Europe. Multiple Premier League titles, domestic cups, and the long-awaited Champions League trophy in 2023 cemented his legacy.

“When you’ve been in a place for 10 years, it’s because you feel comfortable. I can’t ask for more. Football has been incredibly generous to me,” Guardiola reflected.

Praise for Manchester City’s new squad

City refreshed their squad after last season, bringing in Reijnders, Aït-Nouri, and Cherki, while parting ways with club legend Kevin De Bruyne. Despite the departures, Guardiola expressed optimism:

“The team is giving me good vibes. The training, the body language, the details… the little things that show the team is there. This will help us be more consistent than last season.”

Last year was one of City’s least successful under Guardiola, with just 33 wins in 61 matches, comparable only to his debut campaign in 2016/17.

Next Premier League challenge

Manchester City are back in Premier League action this Saturday (23) against Tottenham, in the second round of the competition. Both teams started strong: City with a 4-0 win over Wolves, and Spurs with a 3-0 victory over Burnley, led by two goals from Richarlison.
