Newcastle responds to Alexander Isak, rules out leaving Liverpool and warns: “We want to keep our best players”

Newcastle United have publicly ruled out selling Alexander Isak this summer, despite the striker expressing his frustration and hinting at a departure. The Swedish forward, who had attracted strong interest from Liverpool and Real Madrid, released a statement on Tuesday claiming that “promises made were not fulfilled,” leaving the door open for a possible transfer.

Club firmly denies broken promises

Hours later, Newcastle issued their own official response, rejecting Isak’s claims and clarifying their stance. “No executive promised Alex a transfer. We want to keep our best players, but we also respect their opinions,” the club said in its statement.

The Magpies stressed that they must “always consider the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our fans in all decisions,” before adding that “the conditions of a sale this summer have not been met.”

Liverpool move blocked

Isak’s dispute with the club reportedly escalated after he skipped preseason while Liverpool attempted to negotiate a deal for him. Newcastle refused to release the 24-year-old, a decision that left the striker frustrated.

“The reality is that promises were made, and the club has known my position for a long time. Acting now as if these issues are just emerging is misleading,” Isak said. “When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship cannot continue.”

Newcastle keep firm stance

Despite the player’s comments, Newcastle insist that Isak remains part of the squad. “Alex remains part of our family and will be welcome back when he is ready to join his teammates,” the statement concluded.

Isak, who joined Newcastle in 2022 for a club-record fee, is still under contract until 2028, meaning any potential exit would require a significant transfer fee.
