Real Madrid and Vini Jr. are not moving forward on renewal: values distance the agreement

Talks between Real Madrid and Vinícius Júnior over a contract renewal have hit a standstill. The Brazilian forward is seeking a significant pay rise, but the club’s latest offer fell short, leaving uncertainty around his future.

Salary gap blocks progress

Vinícius currently earns about €17 million net per season, including bonuses. His representatives Fred Pena and Thássilo Soares expected Real Madrid to raise the figure closer to €20 million fixed, with the potential to surpass €30 million per year if performance-related objectives were met.

Instead, the board’s official proposal came in below expectations, failing to include the €10 million increase that had been discussed in May. This setback has frustrated the player’s camp and stalled the talks.

Questions over Vini’s role under Xabi Alonso

The financial disagreement isn’t the only factor. Sources close to the striker also point to concerns over Xabi Alonso’s sporting project.

In last season’s Club World Cup semifinal, Alonso reportedly considered benching Vinícius a move that raised doubts within the player’s circle. Although he did start in the final against PSG, alongside Kylian Mbappé and Gonzalo García, insiders believe the choice was tactical necessity rather than a long-term endorsement.

Early negotiations lose momentum

Real Madrid opened talks earlier than usual with two years left on Vini’s current deal (until June 2027) as a sign of confidence. But instead of reinforcing his place as a cornerstone of the project, the combination of salary tensions and sporting doubts has slowed down the renewal process.

Saudi Arabia link fades, but caution remains

At one stage, Saudi clubs explored the possibility of signing Vinícius. However, those conversations ended in December 2024, and for now, an immediate departure is not on the table.

Still, the player’s entourage is wary of how the story could play out in the media. They fear negative coverage might sway fans and create unnecessary pressure at the Bernabéu. For now, the plan is to monitor Alonso’s project and reassess during the 2025/26 season.
