Spanish midfielder warns he won’t accept a secondary role under Hansi Flick

Barcelona’s summer loan signing of Marcus Rashford has created tension at Camp Nou. According to El Nacional, Dani Olmo has informed coach Hansi Flick that he will not accept being relegated to a backup role following the Englishman’s arrival.

Rashford’s Versatility Raises Concerns

While Olmo is primarily an attacking midfielder and Rashford operates on the wings, the former Manchester United star impressed in preseason with his versatility and finishing ability. Flick sees Rashford as a key reinforcement for Barcelona’s attack, but that has left Olmo feeling his role is under threat.

Growing Internal Tensions

The dispute adds to Barcelona’s already tense environment, marked by friction between Marc-André ter Stegen, the board, and the coaching staff. Flick has emphasized the importance of a stable atmosphere, but Olmo’s discontent could accelerate speculation about a potential exit.

Olmo was one of Barcelona’s standout performers in preseason, scoring and assisting regularly. However, competition is heating up, with Fermín López also emerging as an option, leaving the Spanish international frustrated by the added pressure on his position.

Barcelona’s Possible Response

Despite considering Olmo a valuable squad member, Barcelona’s leadership may rethink their stance if his dissatisfaction continues. The midfielder had already been linked with an exit earlier this year, with Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur showing interest.

Selling the 26-year-old could also ease Barcelona’s financial struggles. Under La Liga’s strict 1:1 rule, president Joan Laporta has suggested that Olmo could be sold for €60 million (R$379m) — a fee that would help balance the club’s books.
