Alexander Isak transfer battle: Real Madrid enter the fray, but Liverpool remain top

Newcastle striker emerges as one of the hottest names of the summer window
The transfer race for Alexander Isak is intensifying as Real Madrid enters the competition for the Newcastle United striker, but according to reports, Liverpool remains the frontrunner to secure the Swedish forward.
Real Madrid’s Striker Hunt
After registering Franco Mastantuono with Castilla, Real Madrid shifted focus to reinforcing the attack before the September transfer deadline. Coach Xabi Alonso has been pushing for a natural center forward, given that the squad currently relies only on Endrick and Gonzalo García as traditional No. 9s.
While Kylian Mbappé is capable of leading the line, his preference is to operate from the left wing. That has prompted Madrid’s hierarchy to explore additional options, with Isak now seen as a priority target, according to beIN Sports presenter Richard Keys.
Why Isak Fits Real Madrid
The 24-year-old Sweden international combines physical strength, technical quality, and proven scoring ability in top leagues, making him a compelling option for Los Blancos. Club officials believe his presence could complement Mbappé perfectly and expand Alonso’s tactical flexibility, especially if he continues experimenting with two-striker formations.
Liverpool Still Leads the Race
Despite Madrid’s interest, Liverpool is currently ahead in negotiations. The Reds have made the striker a priority reinforcement following Darwin Núñez’s inconsistent performances, and Jürgen Klopp views Isak as the ideal long-term solution.
However, prying the forward away from Newcastle will not be easy. The Magpies consider Isak untouchable and could demand a fee exceeding £100 million (€117m), testing the financial resolve of both Liverpool and Madrid.
Midfield Reinforcements Also Considered
While the spotlight is on the attack, Real Madrid is still monitoring opportunities to strengthen midfield. With Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Fede Valverde, and Arda Güler, the squad already boasts world-class depth, but Alonso has not ruled out one final addition before the window closes.
