Nottingham Forest beat Brentford in their Premier League opener

Nottingham Forest began their 2025/26 Premier League campaign in style, securing a 3-1 home victory over Brentford on Sunday (17). A dominant first-half display, capped by a brace from Chris Wood, set the tone for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.
First-Half Blitz at the City Ground
Forest wasted no time asserting control, opening the scoring in the 6th minute when Chris Wood pounced on a loose ball inside the box to beat Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher.
The hosts doubled their lead just before halftime. Morgan Gibbs-White combined brilliantly on the edge of the area before crossing for summer signing Dan Ndoye, who headed home in the 42nd minute.
Forest struck again just three minutes later, capitalizing on a defensive lapse. Elliot Anderson threaded a clever pass to Wood, who calmly slotted in his second of the afternoon, sending the City Ground into raptures with a 3-0 halftime lead.
Brentford’s Late Response
The Bees found a lifeline in the 78th minute after being awarded a penalty. Igor Thiago converted from the spot, but it was too little, too late, as Forest comfortably held on for all three points.
New Faces and Sporting’s Target
New signings Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee were officially confirmed before kickoff, while winger Jota Silva, linked with a move to Sporting CP, was given his Forest debut in the final 10 minutes.
