Atlético de Madrid suffered a setback in their La Liga debut, falling 2-1 to Espanyol on Sunday (17) after surrendering a second-half comeback at the RCDE Stadium.

The visitors struck first in the 37th minute when Julián Álvarez curled in a superb free kick, giving Diego Simeone’s side a deserved 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Espanyol’s Second-Half Response
Espanyol responded strongly after the break and found their equalizer in the 73rd minute. Miguel Rubio, set up by Edu Expósito, slotted past Jan Oblak to level the match.
The turnaround was completed in the 84th minute when Pere Milla rose highest to meet Omar El Hilali’s cross, sending a powerful header into the net and securing all three points for the Catalan side.
