Real Madrid could lose all rights to Nico Paz’s transfer

Como seeks full ownership of the Argentine midfielder after breakout season in Serie A

Real Madrid may soon lose all contractual rights to bring back Nico Paz, as Italian club Como negotiates to acquire 100% of the player’s rights and remove the existing buyback clauses.

According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Como who signed the Argentine midfielder last August has opened discussions aimed at ending Madrid’s option to re-sign the player in the coming seasons.

Como pushing to cancel Real Madrid’s buyback clauses

Nico Paz joined Como from Real Madrid in a deal worth €10 million in 2024. As part of the transfer, Los Blancos retained three buyback options, worth €9 million, €10 million, and €11 million, respectively, across the next three years.

These clauses were put in place by Florentino Pérez to ensure a pathway back to Madrid should Paz reach his expected potential.

But Como, aiming for long-term profits and stability, is now pushing to eliminate those clauses entirely potentially shutting Madrid out of any future involvement.

Paz’s resurgence and growing market value

The 20-year-old midfielder has experienced a breakout season in Italy. With 35 appearances, six goals, and nine assists, he played a pivotal role in Como’s surprise 10th-place finish in Serie A.

Paz’s form has driven his market value up to €35 million, more than triple what Como paid for him just a year ago.

Madrid’s midfield plans reduce chances of return

Paz briefly returned to Real Madrid’s radar following Luka Modrić’s departure, but the club’s recent moves appear to have shut the door on his comeback. The arrival of Franco Mastantuono and the rise of Arda Güler have crowded the midfield, leaving little room for the Argentine’s reintegration.

Como betting on long-term profit

Como’s intention is not only to secure the young talent but to maximize future transfer value. By terminating Real Madrid’s buyback rights, the club would be in full control of any future sale positioning itself for a potential windfall if Paz continues his upward trajectory.
