Fridolina Rolfö leaves Barcelona for Manchester United in a major WSL transfer

Manchester United have completed the signing of Swedish full-back Fridolina Rolfö from Barcelona, marking one of the standout moves of the 2025/26 Women’s Super League transfer window. The 31-year-old arrives with a wealth of experience and a decorated career, including a UEFA Women’s Euro appearance for Sweden.
From Key Barça Player to WSL Contender
Rolfö joined Barcelona in 2021 and played a central role in the club’s dominance, helping secure multiple league and Champions League titles. Last season, she appeared in 32 matches, contributing six goals and five assists despite injury setbacks. Known for her attacking instincts from defence, she became a “luxury reserve” in her final year at Camp Nou, still delivering crucial performances.
Why She Chose Manchester United
Upon signing, Rolfö expressed excitement about joining a club with ambition and tradition. “It’s really exciting to join Manchester United, not only because of the size and history of the club, but also because I’m part of the journey the club is taking in women’s football,” she said.
She added that the competitiveness of the WSL was a decisive factor: “The WSL is probably the strongest league in the world right now, so that was a big reason to come here, as well as the chance to help the team establish themselves in the Champions League.”
United’s Ambitions and Upcoming Matches
After finishing third in last season’s WSL, Manchester United have strengthened their squad to mount a title challenge and make an impact in Europe. They will face PSV in the Women’s Champions League qualifiers on August 27, before opening their WSL campaign against Leicester City on September 7.
With Rolfö’s arrival, United secure a proven winner whose versatility and experience could be decisive in their hunt for silverware.
