Rodrygo still dreams of a move to Liverpool as the Reds prepare a big offer

Brazilian forward recalls rejected 2017 move while awaiting potential Premier League switch

Real Madrid forward Rodrygo remains committed to Los Blancos, but behind the scenes, the Brazilian is reportedly hoping for a move to Liverpool, according to The Sun. Although no formal offer has been submitted, the Premier League side has emerged as his preferred destination in the wake of Luis Díaz’s transfer to Bayern Munich.

Rodrygo is under contract with Real Madrid until 2028, but sources suggest he would be open to a move if Liverpool follows through with its interest. The English club is said to be preparing an offer of £120 million, approximately €158 million, to sign the 23-year-old forward.

A Long-Standing Connection With the Reds

The Brazilian has held a long-term admiration for Liverpool. In an interview with The Guardian, Rodrygo revealed that he turned down a move to Anfield in 2017, when he was just 16 and playing in the youth ranks at Santos.

“It’s true, I almost went to Liverpool. We didn’t close the deal because I didn’t want to. I wanted to stay at Santos, even though the offer was very good. The path they promised me would also have been very good for my career,” he recalled.

Interest Grows Despite Madrid Commitment

Rodrygo’s current release clause at Real Madrid exceeds €100 million, and Tottenham has reportedly submitted a bid in that range. However, the Brazilian showed no interest in joining Spurs. Arsenal is also monitoring the situation, but Liverpool remains his top priority.

Meanwhile, Madrid has not publicly responded to the speculation. The club may be forced to reconsider its stance, especially if Rodrygo’s departure could unlock funds for further midfield reinforcements.

Competition and Uncertainty at Real Madrid

Rodrygo has found playing time harder to come by due to the arrival of several young talents under Xabi Alonso’s management. Despite his contributions over the past seasons, the 23-year-old has not always been a guaranteed starter in the revamped squad.

Liverpool, now under Arne Slot, is undergoing an attacking rebuild and has already spent over €360 million on transfers this summer. A move for Rodrygo would significantly bolster their front line while providing the player a fresh start at a club he has long admired.
