Flick tells Ferrán Torres that he is counting on him at Barcelona and the player wants to compete with Lewandowski
New Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has personally informed Ferrán Torres that he is part of the club’s plans for the upcoming season, according to Mundo Deportivo. The German coach’s assurance comes as Saudi Arabian clubs express growing interest in the Spanish forward.
Competing with Lewandowski for Starting Role
With Robert Lewandowski currently the undisputed starter at center forward, Torres is said to be working hard to reach the same physical and tactical condition as the Polish striker. Flick reportedly values Ferrán’s movement off the ball and finishing ability, which the player showcased during Barcelona’s recent pre-season friendlies, scoring twice and impressing the coaching staff.
Despite Lewandowski’s position, Ferrán is motivated to compete for a starting role, not just serve as a backup. He featured in 45 matches last season, starting 19, scoring 19 goals and providing seven assists, proving to be one of the club’s most efficient contributors off the bench.
Lucrative Saudi Offers on the Table
According to Jijantes FC, multiple Saudi Pro League clubs are monitoring Torres and are prepared to offer him a contract worth up to €60 million over three years. Barcelona, for their part, would not rule out a sale if the right financial package arrives, especially as the club continues to navigate Financial Fair Play constraints.
The Saudi clubs are also said to be willing to meet Barcelona’s asking price, reportedly aligned with Ferrán’s €40 million market valuation (Transfermarkt). Despite this, Torres has not shown a desire to leave, particularly after receiving Flick’s backing.
Future of Lewandowski Also in Question
Lewandowski, 36, remains a target for Saudi clubs as well. While the striker has expressed a preference to stay in Catalonia, the Barcelona board is open to letting him leave if a substantial offer arrives. His contract runs through June 2026.
Ferrán Torres, who arrived from Manchester City in August 2022, remains under contract with Barça until June 2027.
