Real Madrid’s Rodrygo wants to play for Liverpool after approving project, says journalist

Real Madrid open to talks as Brazilian edges closer to Premier League switch
Real Madrid forward Rodrygo has reportedly approved a move to Liverpool, putting the Premier League club in pole position to sign the Brazilian international. According to journalist Siro López, the player is increasingly leaning toward a departure from Spain after giving the nod to Liverpool’s long-term project.
At present, Rodrygo is said to be closer to joining Liverpool than remaining at Real Madrid, as both clubs maintain open lines of communication. Behind the scenes, negotiations have advanced with the player’s representatives, and Real Madrid are reportedly willing to consider offers below €100 million.
Real Madrid open to negotiating Rodrygo
With competition for places intensifying under new manager Xabi Alonso, Rodrygo’s role at Real Madrid has diminished, prompting the 23-year-old to weigh his options. Liverpool, in turn, have moved quickly to express their interest, with discussions reportedly underway for a potential deal valued at around £69 million (approx. €81 million).
While the La Liga giants have not made any public statements, sources close to the club suggest that a transfer is “not ruled out” if the offer meets their valuation.
Liverpool building aggressively this summer
Rodrygo is not the only name on Liverpool’s radar. The Reds have also targeted Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who remains a top priority for the club. Despite already spending heavily this window—including over €100 million on Florian Wirtz—Liverpool remain financially prepared for multiple marquee signings.
The departure of Colombian winger Luis Díaz to Bayern Munich for €75 million has freed up funds, ensuring Liverpool can push ahead for both Isak and Rodrygo.
No interest in Tottenham move
Liverpool’s chances of signing Rodrygo further improved after the Brazilian rejected interest from Tottenham Hotspur. According to reports from the Spanish and English press, Rodrygo sees Liverpool as a more competitive project, with greater chances of winning major trophies.
Although he respects Tottenham’s position in English football, he prefers a move to Anfield, where he would play a central role in the club’s next-generation squad under new management.
