Flamengo surprises and moves forward with the signing of Samuel Lino after agreement with Saúl

Brazilian club close to securing third major signing after Saúl Ñíguez and Emerson Royal
Flamengo is on the verge of completing another major signing from Spanish football, with Samuel Lino, of Atlético de Madrid, now close to joining the Rio de Janeiro side. The move follows the arrivals of Saúl Ñíguez and an advanced deal for Emerson Royal.
Flamengo Makes Major Push for Samuel Lino
According to journalist Marco Giordano, Flamengo is finalizing the signing of Samuel Lino, a versatile 25-year-old winger. The transfer fee reportedly involves €25 million paid to Atlético de Madrid, plus €5 million in personal terms bringing the total operation to €30 million.
This deal likely halts Napoli’s pursuit of the player, which had appeared close to a conclusion. Flamengo now emerges as the most probable destination for the Brazilian, who has spent the last two seasons in La Liga.
From La Liga to Maracanã: Samuel Lino’s Rising Profile
In the 2024/25 season, Samuel Lino featured in 47 matches under coach Diego Simeone, contributing 4 goals and 8 assists. His adaptability allowed him to perform across the entire left flank ranging from full-back to winger roles.
At Atlético, Lino played regularly alongside Saúl Ñíguez, who has already been confirmed as a Flamengo player. The two could soon be reunited at the Maracanã.
Flamengo Building European-Caliber Squad
Samuel Lino is no stranger to Brazilian football. A product of São Bernardo, he previously featured in Flamengo’s youth ranks, even winning the 2018 Copinha, a youth tournament that also included Hugo Souza and Pepê.
Before joining Atlético, Lino gained European experience at Gil Vicente in Portugal and Valencia in Spain, earning praise for his consistency and technical ability.
Reinier Could Be Next on Flamengo’s Radar
As Flamengo continues to reshape its squad under Filipe Luís, another familiar name may return: Reinier, currently under contract with Real Madrid. Spanish reports indicate that the midfielder is eager to rejoin Flamengo and restart his career in Brazil.
If confirmed, the arrival of Reinier would add to Flamengo’s aggressive transfer strategy, which is positioning the club as a South American powerhouse with European ambitions.
