After failing at Arsenal, Sterling returns to Chelsea and attracts the attention of Bayer Leverkusen

Raheem Sterling’s return to Chelsea appears to be short-lived, as Bayer Leverkusen have shown strong interest in signing the out-of-favor forward this summer, according to journalist Sami Mokbel.
The 30-year-old winger, who spent last season on loan at Arsenal, is not part of new head coach Enzo Maresca’s plans at Stamford Bridge. While Sterling was previously viewed as a marquee signing, his performances for both Chelsea and Arsenal have left much to be desired.
Failed to Impress at Arsenal or Chelsea
Sterling joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2022 for €56 million, but never fully established himself. In 109 appearances for the Blues, he managed 20 goals and 20 assists, failing to replicate the impact he had under Pep Guardiola.
During his loan spell at Arsenal, Sterling made minimal impact under Mikel Arteta, scoring just one goal in over 1,140 minutes of play. The Gunners declined to pursue a permanent deal, sending him back to Chelsea this summer.
Leverkusen Ready to Bid
Now, Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are monitoring the situation closely. Sources suggest the German club could soon submit a formal offer. Given Sterling’s declining role and the club’s wage structure, Chelsea are unlikely to resist a reasonable bid.
Current market estimates value the English forward at €10 million, a stark drop from his initial price tag. For Chelsea, a transfer could help recoup a portion of their investment and reduce wage expenses.
Sterling’s Steep Market Decline
Sterling’s career trajectory has seen a sharp downturn since his move from Manchester City. Once considered one of England’s most dynamic attackers, his recent form and limited contribution at the top level have resulted in a significant market value depreciation.
Despite that, his experience and versatility remain attractive to clubs like Leverkusen, who are looking to reinforce their attack ahead of a busy domestic and European campaign.
