Arteta Says Arsenal "100% Followed Protocols" in Thomas Partey Exit Amid Rape Charges
Mikel Arteta says Arsenal acted correctly over Partey exit

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has stated that the club “acted correctly” regarding Thomas Partey, whose contract was not renewed amid serious legal allegations. Arteta’s comments come as Partey faces multiple charges of rape and sexual assault stemming from incidents between 2021 and 2022.

Partey Released After Contract Expiration; Arrest Followed Days Later

Partey’s contract officially expired on June 30, and the former midfielder was arrested on July 4 in connection with six alleged sexual offences five of rape and one of assault. Although the investigation began in 2022, Partey’s name was only publicly tied to the case after his recent arrest.

Speaking from Arsenal’s pre-season camp in Singapore, Arteta was cautious but firm:

“The club was very clear in its statement. There are many legal issues that are very complicated, so I can’t comment on any of that,” he said.
When asked whether Arsenal followed internal protocols, he added:
“100 percent, yes.”

Background: Partey Remained Anonymous During Initial Investigation

Though Partey was questioned in 2023, he remained anonymous at the time and was not charged. However, his presence in the squad during the 2022/23 season drew criticism and fan protests due to the ongoing investigation.

With a court date now set for August 5, Arsenal opted to end their association with the player.

Partey’s Career at Arsenal

The Ghanaian international joined Arsenal in 2020 after a £45 million transfer from Atlético Madrid. He made over 100 appearances for the Gunners and scored four goals in the Premier League last season. His tenure, however, has now ended under heavy scrutiny.

Partey Denies Allegations

Through his legal representatives, Partey has denied all accusations and maintains his intention to prove his innocence in court.
